Heating your hot water with the sun...
"I'd put my money on the sun and solar energy. What a source of power! I hope we don't wait til' oil and coal run out before we tackle that" - Thomas Edison 1847-1932 (In a conversation with Henry Ford.)
Have you ever stopped to think how much energy you use to heat your hot water? The benefits of using solar thermal energy to heat hot water and pool water is one of the oldest and most tested forms of renewable energy. Not only that, but it's one of the best investment returns available with paybacks generally running in the 5-10 year range.
Right now your residential OR commercial facility qualifies for a Federal Tax Credit of 30% of Project Cost. Commercial facilities also qualify for a 5 year accelerated depreciation. Further rebates are also available through State & Utility incentive programs. Call us to learn more.

Shift Energy specializes in Design, Supply & turnkey Design/Build of solar hot water systems for residential and commercial applications. We are not a manufacturer's rep, and we don't just use our plumbing supply house to source our systems. We design our systems to match each and every application with our client preferences in mind. We source the best system, for the best price, with the best return on investment. We provide energy modeling for our systems during design and 24hr system reporting and performance metering of our installations after installation. This allows our clients to see how much energy they saved today, yesterday, last week, last month for the year or since the system was installed. Doing so allows both you and us to see that the system is operating at it's peak in addition to giving you helpful hints on when to b

How do I know what the best system for my home or facility is?
While we have longstanding relationships and up to date pricing information on all major and active solar hot water system manufacturers in the region, we do not represent any one manufacturer or vendor and do not have any affiliations as such. Our goal is to represent our client at all times, and solicit the right system and right design to meet your needs.
There are a number of factors that impact decision making when it comes to Solar Hot Water:
- Do you want to create more energy in the winter, or are you more concerned about maximum yearly output?
- Are you more interested in life cycle savings (ie. total savings over the life of the system) or short investment return?
- Is appearance more important than energy savings?
- Does "Made in the USA" drive at your decision making?
- Do you need to achieve a certain temperature as often as possible?
- Do you have limited roof space, or partial shading?
All of the above factors and more are perfect examples of why NO SINGLE MANUFACTURER is the perfect fit for every application.
Unlike many solar contractors and even Mechanical engineers, our solar designs and installations are driven by client preferences and energy modeling software with system cost comparisons to help you guarantee you've made the right decision.

Residential Systems
Shift Energy offers pre-engineered solar hot water systems for your home starting at $6,500.00.
A site analysis is required to confirm your home has good solar exposure in addition to a clean and unobstructed pipe run from the roof line to the basement or wherever the solar storage tank will be located.
How and when your home consumes hot water is also very important to us, and will ultimately help us optimize a system to match your needs.
Diagram Key:
1) Collectors
2) Solar heated hot water
3) Heat Exchanger (Note: coil inside tank may also be used)
4) Solar storage tank
5) Return cold water
Note: If you've received a proposal for your solar hot water system using a dual coiled tank, please call us to discuss. There are many reasons and benefits of having an additional solar storage tank that are important considerations before investing in a system that may be counteractive to what you are hoping to achieve.

Commercial Systems
Commercial Solar Hot water is a different animal to residential. Why? Because of how your business may use hot water. There are many consumption patterns that largely impact how we design our systems.
Example:
* A car wash facility with round-the clock hot water consumption that is in short but high volumes will require a very different solar thermal design to a condo building with very little occupancy during the daytime.
