Kenmore Abbey Apartments, Boston MA - Solar Hot Water

This 60 collector solar hot water project is the fourth project that Shift Energy has been engaged in by Preservation of Affordable Housing (POAH) in Boston MA.

With over 230 occupants in apartment units spread across two separate buildings, this facility has a central domestic hot water system that POAH remained commited to reducing fossil fuel consumption via a solar hot water system.

In early 2012, Shift Energy & POAH worked together to push the project through historical/landmark commission reviews, before commencing design and construction.

The project involved a total of 60 flate plate solar hot water collectors, with two solar pump stations, a 2,000 gallon atmospheric storage tank (by Haase Tanks) and a detailed system monitoring solution.

The project was completed under the general construction contract with CWC Builders and subsequent subcontractors. The system was commissioned into operation by Shift Energy in January 2013, and has been operating smoothly ever since.

With Fenway Park just across the road, and many famous landmarks surrounding, this solar system has the best view in the City of Boston!
